As my Grandmother got older, she realized that she was in possession of many photos, slides, and
negatives that told so much of her family’s history. In an attempt to help her preserve these memories
and pass them on to her descendants, I started scanning. 14 boxes of materials later, which took several
years to scan and process around my other obligations, I realized what a gift I was giving to myself, my cousins, and future generations of our family.
For me, it was then a simple jump to start working on our family tree. This work has led to some amazing discoveries about our ancestors, whom we can now match with visual images. After some soul-searching, and purchasing more and better equipment, I decided to offer that gift to other families as well. I quit my 9-5 job and started up my business. In the time that I have been doing this, I have enjoyed seeing the story of each family’s journey unfold in images. Since then, I have added videos to my repertoire. While I can’t enhance the images in the videos like I can with static images, I’m still preserving memories—baby’s first steps, Christmas, etc. In addition, I can now handle 8mm reel to reel movies. Most of these are 3 minute snippets of life in our parents’ and grandparents’ lives. What a treat!
I feel that most of my clients really appreciate the one-on-one attention that I can give them. Many also feel very uncomfortable putting such precious memories in the hands of a shipping company, so the fact that I am local and come to them to collect the materials, puts them more at ease. (A service that I provide for all my Seattle and surrounding areas customers free of charge) Of course, I also have customers who do ship their materials.
